Bank of America, a major bank in the U.S., is planning to close its Fresno, Calif. call center business in August 2013, Equities.com reported recently.
According to Jennifer Darwin, a Bank of America spokeswoman, agents at the center answer telephone calls from the bank's consumer-banking customers. "The work they do today will be shifted to other centers across the country," Darwin said in a statement.
"We are very focused on supporting employees through this change, including helping them find other opportunities within the company," she added. However, Darwin didn’t reveal how many workers the call center business currently employs.
Back in September, the large bank revealed it would be laying off about 30,000 employees nationwide as part of a corporate downsizing effort. The company has closed at least two other call centers in the past couple of years. And prior to that, in November 2010, the bank stated it would also be closing a 300 employee call center business in Wichita, Kan. by mid 2011.
In a recent report from TMCnet, Bank of America as well as other banks including Citigroup were highlighted for being the targets of some cyber hoax triggered by the sentiments over an anti-Muslim movie made in the U.S. As a result, these banks suffered massive traffic surges and disruptions though not all of them have been confirmed as online attacks.
In fact, those are some of the initial signs of an impending Denial-Of-Service attack, which have no direct impact on the condition of a firm’s sensitive data but only work to stagnate the functions of websites that depend on customer interaction to generate revenue, according to experts.
Some of the banks believe that the power and extent of the attacks is slightly above the capability of the religious youth group. They put it in the class of ‘false flags,’ feeling that it is a move aimed at obscuring the actual reality.
